What purification is
Halal ETFs screen out companies in prohibited businesses, but a screened company can still earn a small part of its income from sources that are not permissible. Fund providers estimate that share and publish it.
AAOIFI’s Shariah standard on investing in shares describes giving that portion away to charity rather than keeping it. Providers present it differently: SP Funds publishes a percentage of each quarter’s dividend, and Wahed publishes a dollar amount per share.
This page uses only those provider documents, quarter by quarter. It never estimates a missing figure. Scholars can differ on details, so follow the guidance of one you trust.
Some halal funds do not publish purification figures at all. As of 16 October 2026 that included MNZL (Manzil) and the iShares MSCI USA, World and Emerging Markets Islamic UCITS funds, so they are not listed here. If you hold one, ask the provider for its figure.
