Privacy policy
Last updated: September 16, 2026
The short version
The calculator runs in your browser and stores your inputs in your browser's local storage. The one exception is PDF export, which sends a report to our calculator server to generate the file — that payload is used only for the request and is not retained. We run no advertising. Cloudflare Web Analytics measures visits without cookies. Google Analytics runs automatically on both sites and sets cookies; the privacy policy explains how to block it in your browser.
What this policy covers
Halal ETF Planner is two connected sites: this educational website at halaletfplanner.com and a projection calculator at calculator.halaletfplanner.com. This policy explains how each handles your information, and matches how the sites actually behave today rather than what might change later.
What we collect
Most of what you do here stays on your own device. We collect, or receive, only the following:
- Calculator inputs, stored in your browser. The tickers you select, your currency and time horizon, and the contribution amounts and assumptions you enter are kept in your browser's local storage so a reload doesn't lose your work.
- A PDF report request, only when you ask for a PDF. If you choose to download a PDF of your results, your calculator sends a report to the calculator server so it can render the file. See below.
- Server and network logs. Our hosting and content-delivery providers may process standard request information, such as IP address, browser type, requested path, timestamp, and response status, to deliver and secure the sites. Retention settings remain subject to provider configuration and legal review.
- Analytics, which loads automatically. Both sites use Google Analytics to record page views and a short list of non-financial interactions described below. There is no opt-in step; the section on cookies explains how to block it in your browser.
- Nothing from the contact form on our servers. The contact form opens your own email program; we do not collect the message on our servers.
The calculator and your data
Your calculator inputs — tickers, currency, horizon, and per-scenario amounts and assumptions — are stored only in your browser's local storage. You can clear them at any time with the calculator's "Clear saved data" control, or by clearing your browser data.
The single exception is PDF export. When you download a PDF, a report containing your calculation date, currency, and scenario amounts and results is sent to the calculator server. The server validates the request, regenerates the result, renders the PDF, and returns it to you. The application does not write the report or PDF to a database or persistent file storage. Its application error handling records request identifiers and technical error messages; it is designed not to log the report request body or contribution amounts.
No other action you take in the calculator sends your inputs to our servers. PNG and CSV downloads are generated entirely in your browser.
If you choose to share a calculator setup, the calculator creates a URL containing only the selected ETF tickers, currency, calculator mode and horizon. It does not place contribution amounts, target amounts, scenario names or projected results in that URL. Like any requested URL, the setup link and its query parameters may be processed in standard browser, hosting and network logs when somebody opens it. If you choose to share a result image, the image is generated in your browser and sharing is initiated through your browser or operating system; review the image before sending it because it contains projected chart values.
Cookies, analytics, and local storage
The calculator uses local storage for the functional purpose described above. The website itself sets no functional cookies. Standard hosting and content-delivery logs are described below; they are not created by browser cookies.
We run no advertising, and we set no advertising cookies, on either site.
Cloudflare Web Analytics — always on, cookieless. Both hostnames use Cloudflare Web Analytics. It is cookieless: it sets no cookies, does not track visitors across sites, and records only aggregate page/referrer and browser performance or technical information. Because it is non-identifying and sets no cookies, it does not require your consent — this disclosure is the notice. Normal HTTP handling exposes the source IP to Cloudflare; Cloudflare states it discards the IP at the nearest data center rather than storing it in its analytics databases.
Google Analytics — on by default. Both sites use Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-642P0F12J2) to count visits and understand which pages, chapters and calculator steps are useful. It loads automatically when you open either site, with no opt-in step, because the site owner chose continuous measurement.
It sets its own cookies (_ga and _ga_642P0F12J2), configured for the parent domain halaletfplanner.com so a visit that starts on one hostname and continues on the other stays one attributable journey. Advertising storage, advertising user data and ad personalization are denied, Google Signals and ad-personalization signals are switched off, and Google's data redaction is requested. We do not use Google Analytics for advertising or remarketing.
What we record is page views plus five interactions:
calculator_cta_click— the page you clicked from and which call-to-action you used.calculator_start— that a calculation was started.calculation_complete— the calculator mode, horizon in years, number of ETFs and number of scenarios.file_download— the file type downloaded (PDF, PNG or CSV), recorded only after a download has actually succeeded.referral_click— which platform page you left for.
We never send contribution amounts, target amounts, scenario names, currencies, ETF tickers, allocations, projected balances, zakat estimates or exported report contents. The analytics code enforces an allowlist of permitted fields, so an unapproved value cannot be sent even by mistake.
Switching Google Analytics off. Because measurement starts automatically, the control is your browser rather than a banner on the site. Any of these stops it:
- block
googletagmanager.comandgoogle-analytics.com— most content blockers, privacy browsers and DNS blocklists do this by default; - clear the
_gaand_ga_642P0F12J2cookies forhalaletfplanner.com, or set your browser to reject non-essential cookies; - browse in a private window, which starts without existing cookies and discards them when you close it; or
- enable browser- or extension-level tracking protection, which prevents the Google script from running at all.
Blocking analytics does not affect anything else on either site: the calculator, its exports and its downloads all work normally without it.
If you chose an analytics preference on an earlier visit: that footer control has been removed. The cookie it stored is expired automatically the next time you load either site, and it no longer affects what is measured.
If we later introduce optional technology beyond this, we will identify the provider and purpose, update this policy and the cookie policy, prevent the optional technology from loading before the required choice, and ask visitors for a fresh choice.
Third parties
- Referral links. Platform pages may link to Sarwa or Baraka, some as referral links. Clicking one takes you to that platform, which then handles your information under its own policies. See the referral disclosure.
- Hosting and CDN. Our hosting provider and content-delivery network may process standard request data to deliver and secure the sites, as described above.
- Cloudflare Web Analytics. Active on both hostnames. It is cookieless, records only aggregate page/referrer and browser performance or technical information, and does not track visitors across sites. Cloudflare states it discards the source IP at the nearest data center.
- Google Analytics 4. Loads automatically on both hostnames and records page views and the five interactions listed above, using the shared
halaletfplanner.comcookie scope. Advertising storage, advertising user data, ad personalization, Google Signals and ad-personalization signals are disabled, so it is not used for advertising or remarketing. Blocking Google in your browser or content blocker prevents it entirely. - No advertising providers are active today.
Your choices
- Switch Google Analytics off in your browser. There is no on-site toggle, so blocking
googletagmanager.com, clearing the Google Analytics cookies, or using a private window is how you opt out. Details are in the cookies and analytics section above. - Clear calculator data with the calculator's "Clear saved data" control.
- Request deletion or ask a question via the contact page.
