METHODOLOGY
How the projections work
Before anything else: the SIP calculator produces an illustration, not a prediction. It applies a simple formula to historical fund data so you can see roughly how monthly contributions compound over time. It cannot know what markets will do next, and it is not financial, tax, or Shariah advice.
Where the ETF data comes from
Historical price data for each tracked fund (SPUS, HLAL, UMMA, SPWO) comes from each fund provider's own published performance history. Shariah-compliance screening for every fund is determined and attributed to that fund's provider — Halal ETF Planner does not perform independent Shariah certification.
How often the data is updated
Fund data is refreshed on a periodic basis, not in real time. Some figures shown on the ETF Data page may be several weeks old; where a fund's data is more than 30 days stale, the page shows a visible warning next to that fund.
The logic behind the projection, in plain terms
The calculator takes the monthly amount you enter and applies an average historical growth rate for the fund(s) you choose, compounding it month over month across the time horizon you set. It does not simulate day-to-day market movement, fees beyond the fund's stated expense ratio, currency conversion costs, or taxes — all of which affect real-world outcomes.
What we assume
- A constant monthly contribution for the full time horizon you set.
- Growth compounding at the fund's historical average rate, smoothed across the sample period shown.
- No withdrawals, interruptions, or changes to the contribution amount along the way.
What we don't know or can't promise
- Future returns — markets can perform very differently from their historical average, in either direction.
- Your personal tax treatment, currency conversion costs, or platform-specific fees beyond the fund's expense ratio.
- Whether any given fund remains available or continues to meet its stated Shariah screening criteria going forward.

Why we show it this way
Projections are useful for building intuition about compounding, not for planning exact outcomes. We'd rather be upfront about the tool's limits than let a clean-looking chart imply more certainty than it deserves.
This is educational content, not financial advice. Past performance does not guarantee future returns. See the ETF data page for the underlying figures.
